Author Visit Overview Below are the programs offered.

  • What does a Writer do?

This presentation is a walk-through of a day, week, month, and year in the life of a writer’s work life. Robyn will bring a variety of writing samples such as samples of different kinds of writing she has published from newspaper articles,  to magazine features, and picture books, and even scripts for animation. The purpose is to allow students who are creative and love to write get a glimpse into the many career options for writers. This is usually very eye-opening to students as they’ll see so many possibilities for careers in writing. With Q+A, this presentation can last up to 60 minutes with older students. This presentation is suitable for children in grades K-8. The presentation lasts 60 minutes (presentation is shortened for young audiences).

  • Start to Finish: The Book Journey: From Start to Finish

Writing a book is much more like preparing for a very long journey rather than a weekend getaway. In this presentation Robyn will show kids children how she brought one (or more) of her books to life from start to finish ( from notebook to computer to final, published work). This presentation also touches on rejection and perseverance. If you’d like Robyn to focus on a particular book for this talk, please let her know in advance. Total presentation time is approx. 1 hour; can be reduced for younger audiences.

  • Book Reading

This presentation includes a reading or animation showing (if available) of one of Robyn's children book and an arts & crafts activity that relates to the storybook. This presentation is better suited for students in grades 1st-6th. Approximately 60 minutes in length.

  • Topic of Your Choice

Do you want Robyn to teach a summer writing camp? focus on a particular book? If there’s something you’d like her to speak about that’s not listed here, contact us and we can create a presentation to meet your needs.  Robyn would be happy to speak to your students on a topic that relates to what they’re studying in class.
